It’s Never too Early to Prep Your Home for the New Baby

 In safety tips

As the expectant mother gets closer and closer to her due date, the anticipation and excitement builds. These feelings can be almost overwhelming at times, but it is important not to let them distract you from the practicalities that a new baby demands. One of the most important of these is the job of baby proofing your home. Once your little one begins to crawl you’ll need to ensure that your home is safe.

Lock up the Chemicals

One of the first steps you need to take is to get all of the chemicals out of the reach of the baby. This means locking up all of the cleaning products or putting them out of the reach of the baby. Make sure to go thoroughly over your home to ensure that there are no unaccounted chemical products that are within the baby’s grasp.

Plug the Outlets

One of the most terrifying things that can happen to your baby is getting shocked by one of the outlets in your house. To prevent this, you need to place guards over all of the outlets in every room in your house. While you are doing this, make sure to tape down or tie up all the electrical cords as well. Babies can pull on an unsecured cord and cause the item attached to the cord to fall down.

See Things from the Baby’s Point of View

If you want to make sure that you identify all of the potential hazards your home presents your baby, then you should take the time to investigate your house from the baby’s point of view. The way to do this is to get down on your hands and knees. From this crawling vantage point, you can explore every corner of your home. You will be surprised at all the things you notice from this view that you would fail to see when you are upright.

Installing Baby Locks

If you leave something unsecured, you can be sure that your baby will get into it at some point. It is best to avoid this by placing locks on all of the cabinets and drawers in your house. Also, you should get a few baby gates that will keep the child out of rooms in the home that could be dangerous. Baby gates are a great way to protect our child from stairwells.

Your baby will explore your home more than you can possibly imagine. You cannot watch them every second of the day, and it is amazing how fast they can get into things when your back is turned. When you take the time to baby proof your house, you will ensure that your baby is as safe as possible.
